Perineal tears & birth trauma treatment
About 9 in 10 first-time mums giving birth vaginally will experience some tearing.
Most will heal quickly but larger tears are not always straightforward to recover from. Whether you had a spontaneous tear, an episiotomy, and/or a tricky forceps delivery, it’s common to experience lingering bladder and bowel symptoms, sensitivity, or discomfort — both physically and emotionally — in the weeks and months that follow. This leaves many women feeling unsupported and unsure of how to move forwards.
At Pelvix, we take a calm, supportive approach to recovery — helping you strengthen, reconnect, and navigate your postpartum recovery with confidence.
Every plan is individual, but treatment may include:
- Education and reassurance – understanding what’s normal, what’s not, and how healing progresses over time.
- Gentle pelvic floor assessment and rehabilitation – helping the muscles to relax, strengthen, and coordinate properly.
- Scar desensitisation and soft tissue release – gentle techniques to improve comfort and mobility around the perineal or vaginal scar.
- Relaxation and breathing techniques – to reduce tension and help calm protective muscle patterns.
- Bladder and bowel support – if leakage, urgency, or discomfort are present.
- Gradual return to activity and intimacy – advice to support you safely and at your own pace.
- Emotional support and signposting – recognising the emotional impact of birth trauma and connecting you with further help if needed.
