Gynaecological Surgery: Before and After
Whether you’re preparing for surgery or recovering afterwards.
It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about what to expect and how to recover. At Pelvix, we provide specialist physiotherapy both before and after gynaecological surgery to help you recover well and safely rebuild your strength and fitness. This can also help manage and prevent ongoing issues like pain, weakness, or bladder and bowel issues.
Before Surgery
Pre-surgery physiotherapy is about preparing your body for a smooth recovery.
You’ll learn how to:
- Activate and relax your pelvic floor effectively
- Maintain mobility and circulation during recovery
- Understand what to expect immediately after surgery and how to stage your recovery
- This preparation helps you go into surgery feeling informed, confident, and physically ready to heal.
After Surgery
Recovery is about more than wound healing. Once you’ve had time to heal (and have the all-clear from your consultant), post-surgical physiotherapy focuses on:
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation – gently restoring strength, coordination, and endurance
- Scar tissue and soft tissue release – if needed for abdominal scars
- Breathing and posture – supporting natural movement and pressure management
- Gradual return to activity – including walking, lifting, and exercise
- Bladder and bowel support – addressing any urgency, leakage, or constipation that may arise after surgery
- We’ll progress at your pace, making sure everything feels safe and appropriate for your stage of recovery.
